Empowering Gap Year Scholars
The Lonjezo Scholars Program addresses the challenges faced by secondary school leavers awaiting university selection. This 10-month gap year program provides academic enrichment, university preparation, and practical skills training to prepare students for success in higher education. The first cohort launched in August 2024 with 135 students from UPI affiliate schools in Blantyre, Lilongwe, and Ntchisi.
Scholars receive comprehensive training in research management, research skills, personal finance, career discernment, and leadership development. The program also includes volunteer work in UPI community projects. UPI has also secured land for a university that will offer full scholarships to students who fail to secure places in public universities.
