Girls Empowerment Through Fashion
Our Fashion & Tailoring Program is a key part of Young & Empowered's Girls Empowerment initiative, serving 60-80 girls per year. We focus on keeping girls in school, motivating them to achieve their goals, and empowering them to make independent choices through mentorship, counseling, role modeling, and social entrepreneurship training.
Students learn professional garment creation, from basic sewing to advanced pattern making and design. Beyond technical skills, we provide business training, life skills development, and mentorship to help young women launch successful fashion enterprises and achieve economic independence in Lunzu, Blantyre.
Weekly Training Schedule
Monday to Thursday, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
21-Week Comprehensive Program • Professional Certificate Upon Completion • Hands-on Training
Pattern making, design principles, fabric selection
Students learn to create professional patterns, understand design fundamentals, and select appropriate fabrics for different garments.
Machine operation, garment construction
Hands-on training with industrial sewing machines and techniques for constructing quality garments from start to finish.
Pricing, marketing, customer service
Essential entrepreneurship skills including cost calculation, marketing strategies, and professional client interactions.
Create designs, client projects
Students build professional portfolios by completing real client projects under expert supervision.
